Irene Pena Biography
Irene Pena, LPC-Intern, is a native Houstonian and a graduate of Texas Southern University with a Master of Education in Counselor Education. Irene has a great passion for working with children, adolescents, and their families and guiding them in the healing process. Irene has worked with children for over fifteen years since she herself was an adolescent working as an English tutor, teacher's aide, and counselor. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Bilingual Elementary Education and this experience sparked her interest in counseling and guiding others toward healing from past experiences. Since then, she has acquired vast experience in the counseling field. She is currently working toward her Doctorate in Education in Counselor Education, as well as her Play Therapy registration. She has experience in treating the clinical concerns of various populations including adults with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, phase of life concerns, as well as children with attention deficit disorder, adjustment disorders, parent-child relational problems, and sibling relational problems. She is skilled in individual, group, and family counseling with a strong background in crisis intervention. Irene is fully bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish. She is currently a member of the American Counseling Association and Chi Sigma Iota which is an honor society recognizing counselors throughout the country in academic excellence.
